Moving to Blogspot! WordPress vs Blogspot for Etsy

fbsBlogspot and i are old friends, so i’ve decided to move our virtual home there. For all Etsy sellers thinking of starting up a blog, maybe this post will help you decide which free platform to use.

WordPress is great from so many points of view and it is better than Blogspot when it comes to SEO. Search engines are more fond of wordpress finds than blogspot ones. WordPress is very well structured and easy to use. I dare say even in these two aspects it’s better than Blogspot. So, you ask, why do you move Funky Box Studio on blogspot when wordpress sounds better? Because blogspot allows widgets that wordpress doesn’t!

It is important for an Etsy seller to make use of every resource available in order to promote his work. Etsy has a couple of cool widgets itself, but you can also find others on other sites linked to Etsy. Like http://www.craftcult.com for example. All these widgets can be inserted on blogspot, but not on wordpress. WordPress doesn’t allow html (with a few exceptions) and java widgets (and flash and other embeds). Guess what? The widgets we Etsy sellers need are exactly the ones wordpress won’t allow!

As a conclusion, i strongly recommend using blogspot if you’re an Etsy seller and you’re thinking of setting up a free blog. I had to learn it the hard way, but you don’t! Oh! This post is strictly referring to wordpress vs blogspot and no other blogging platforms. These are the ones i’m familiar with and can speak about.

So now that you know the whole story behind Funky Box Studio moving to blogspot, i’m happy to announce that we have it done and ready and working! Please check us out on www.funkyboxstudio.blogspot.com!

Funky Box Studio goes on vacation!

Funky Box Studio and the people behind it are (finally!) going on vacation!

funky box studio on vacationIt’s been a full first half of year and the second one seems to be even busier. That’s why we decided to recharge our batteries and relax and take a break and go at the seaside and get our skins burnt in the sun and lose sleep because of it and... Oh, wait! Scratch that last part!

Anyway, Funky Box Studio really deserves a break, but we have tons of things prepared for when we get back: new boxes, the gift tags and price tags (finally will be listed), new paper goods for weddings and other special events, facebook page (finally!) and lots of other plans!

Even though i said i didn’t want to see August’s statistics because it’s going to be compromised and all, we actually already had 3 sales this month! Which is fantastic and for which we’re deeply grateful! I’ve already told the story for the first one, but i’ll probably talk about the other two when i get back.

See you again in two weeks!

[Etsy sale] Kraft gift boxes 5.5 x 4.3 x 1″

Weeell they’re actually kraft gift boxes of 5.51 x 4.33 x 0.98″ to be more precise. Nope, don’t look them up, because i didn’t even get a chance to list them on our Etsy shop yet! That’s what makes this sale even more thrilling!

Since our vacation is right around the corner, we thought we’d tone down our Funky Box Studio activity, but we were in for a big surprise! I got a message from a lovely client asking for some gift boxes of specific sizes. I already knew those sizes weren’t close to anything we already had listed on our Etsy shop, so i started checking the boxes i didn’t list yet (oh, there are so many new boxes and tags and die cuts that i’ll have to list once we get back from our vacation!). Luckily enough, there were two types of gift boxes that had similar sizes to the ones she wanted!

As an Etsy shop owner and Etsy seller, of course closing deals is very important for me. However, there are two other moments that actually feel the best:

– having clients tell you that your products were exactly what they’ve been looking for

– having clients tell you that after receiving your products, they’re very happy with their choice

This time i got to experience that great feeling of being told that my items were searched for! So on Friday evening the custom order listing was purchased and earlier today we’ve left the package at the post office. This was definitely an ideal Etsy sale and i hope all our future sales will be the same!

Now all i wish for is that she’ll like the kraft gift boxes we sent her! The photo here is the actual kraft gift box sold; consider it a sneak peek for the future listing!

Hello, August! Rest and relax or keep on working?

Funky Box Studio will turn 4 months old in a couple of days, so i’ve decided to make a stats check. Like… a stats check for the whole 4 months, because just like my fellow Etsyans i check my stats daily. Hehe!

hello august

I’ve decided to do this because very soon FBS will go on vacation, so this month is compromised. August’s stats… i don’t wanna see! So anywayz, let’s see some general numbers for these 4 months (almost!):

– total views – 17141

– shop views – 5957

– listing views – 11184

– favorites – 9303

– shop favorites – 1013 (iuhuuu i managed to reach my 1000 favorites goal!)

– listing favorites – 8290

– orders – 15 (+ 2 others locally)

– most views came from etsy and direct traffic, but putting those aside, the best traffic sources for FBS were: Twitter, Google, StumbleUpon, this blog!, Pinterest, Picsity, Facebook (i haven’t even opened the Facebook page yet!), Tumblr.

– best 3 keywords – gift box / gift boxes, kraft box, cardboard box

– the listing that was the most viewed and at the same time that has the most favorites, is the small – medium gable boxes! Check them out here – click!

Well, i have no idea if these numbers are good or bad, but taking into consideration the fact that this is a side job, a second job and a hobby (for now!), and that i don’t have the necessary time to take better care of it (sorry, my lovely shop!), i am personally very satisfied. There are also looots of future plans for this little shop, so the second half of this year will be very busy. The vacation is meant to fill up our batteries so that we’ll have the energy to fulfill all our plans and goals! Speaking of which, i’m thinking of creating a new page here with our goals for FBS. Actually… definitely going to do that!

Also, speaking of this blog, i’m happy to say it’s starting to get better liked by our friend, Google. I’ll soon start to have posts about what people have searched and got here!

On a different note, i’ve created a RebelMouse account for Funky Box Studio yesterday! I’m still trying to get the hang of it, so please bare with me! Check it out over here – click!

August, be merciful!

[Etsy Treasury] Treasured shop of the week!

Huge surprise for me yesterday when i saw that Funky Box Studio was chosen “Treasured shop of the week” on a lovely team that i’m a proud member of – Strategic Promotion for Success Team or in short SPS Team.

What does “treasured shop” mean? Basically a shop is chosen every week and team members come up with treasuries inspired by one of the items the treasured shop has listed. The next week, another shop is chosen among those who have participated the week before. It’s a fun and creative game!

Well i promised i’d feature here all the treasuries my lovely teammates create inspired by my shop, so here’s the first round!

[Etsy Treasury] Geometry, symmetry…

The Etsy treasury i’ve created … yesterday actually, is a geometrical treasury. Not only will you find fine lines and shapes, but you’ll also see cute colors as well! I think i’m starting to get better at creating treasuries… or maybe i’m just biased! Hehe! Well here’s the lovely geometrical treasury!

Personally, i’m in love with each and every one of the items i’ve picked for this treasury! It actually started from the wonderful SPS Team that i’m a proud member of. This treasury is part of one of the games you’ll find there. For more fun and games, check this team out!

Funky Box Studio on Storenvy!

Funky Box Studio can now be found on Storenvy as well as Etsy!

Visit my store on StorenvyEven though Funky Box Studio is originally an Etsy shop (and always will be hehe!), we kept searching for new ways of spreading the word. We got the Twitter account, the Pinterest one, Tumblr, Picsity and StumbleUpon. Yes, i know the big question: why don’t we have a Facebook account? Well even if i tried, i couldn’t give you a proper answer. I will have a Facebook page for FBS and i have started working on it, but for some reason, there’s always something else that i feel i must do first! It’s a pretty weird feeling… I will definitely have a special post over here when i finally manage to set up the facebook page!

Getting back to the subject, as i was saying, we were searching for new ways of letting people know about FBS. That’s how i found out about Storenvy.

What is Storenvy?

Storenvy is an online platform for little shops owned by creative people. It is similar to Etsy and yet kinda different. They both work on the same concepts and basic ideas and yet for some reason they seem very different. They both power little shops and encourage the handmade society, artisans, crafty people, small businesses. They both let you display your items in a cute manner so that clients would find you easily and be attracted to shop. There are differences when it comes to shipping fees; they have different methods of listing those. It took me a while to understand how Storenvy works when it comes to this aspect, but it’s actually pretty ok. I must admit that i like the Etsy way better, but that must also be because i’m already very used to Etsy and i’m just getting to know Storenvy.

There’s one huge advantage Storenvy has and that is: it’s free! There are, of course, special features you can buy, but basically running a Storenvy shop is free. However, if you have a small shop just like me and you’re also thinking of opening it up on Storenvy, i think you should hurry because i’m not sure they’ll keep it free for much longer. Here’s what i think:

Visit my store on Storenvy

Etsy is already a very well known online platform for small shops and it has a huge community worldwide. It’s been a long time since they reached a point where they needed funds to keep on going. Storenvy, on the other hand, is relatively small compared to Etsy, but that doesn’t mean you should neglect their community. There are over 48000 shops and small businesses on Storenvy! That’s really something! As far as i know, they’re growing constantly, so it won’t be long until they catch up.

As i was saying, Storenvy is free at the moment. The only thing you you’ll pay will be the PayPal fee. I do have many items on hold and not listed on Etsy yet and they’ll appear on Storenvy first. Being free has a lot to do with this.

A cool tool Storenvy has and will definitely help you a lot is importing listings from your Etsy shop. I’ve already done that and i am currently trying to set up the final touches that don’t get imported – tags, photos that are larger than 3Mb can’t get imported, shipping classes and groups, including the items in a category, setting up the stock.

Another cool thing that i totally love about Storenvy is that it makes me smile! It’s really a great achievement to do what you love, but it’s even more so when you have some motivational and hilarious help. Before i started “envy-ing” items on other shops, when i looked at my profile not having anything there that i liked, it said something like: “Andreea hasn’t envy’d anything yet. We believe she’s still in shock because of the awesomeness of the items here.” It wasn’t quite with those words, but it was similar and it was a lot of fun. Also, when checking out the About page, there you can also read the Storenvy “pledge”. Well it’s not a pledge; i just called it like that. Anyways, there are lots of definitions there for Storenvy and lots of its beliefs. Among those, there’s my favorite: “Storenvy thinks you’re cute.”

Okey, i’ve written enough. Check out my Storenvy shop and let me know if you decide to open your own shop there! We can exchange ideas and opinions. You’ll also find new Funky Box Studio items listed there before you’ll see them on Etsy. Check out the Storenvy badge on the sidebar! It thinks i’m cute!

Don’t forget about July’s kraft promotion! You know you need those kraft supplies! Check out the details here – click!
